The road to Omaha begins at PK Park this Friday night as the Ducks host Yale in the first round of the Eugene Regional, 8 p.m. PT on ESPN+.

The winner advances to meet the winner of WSU versus Oregon State, the 3 p.m. game on Friday. OSU is the two-seed and therefore the home team for that match, also on ESPN+.

Should the Ducks get past the Yalies, a squad for whom George Herbert Walker Bush once manned first base, they'll meet the Beavers or Cougs on Saturday in Game 4 at 6:00 p.m., channel to be announced.

It's a double-elimination format. The team that starts tournament play 2-0 wins 90 percent of the time. Barring an upset, the winner of the Eugene Regional will face the winner of the Austin Regional, likely to be No. 6 Texas of the SEC.

Yale led the Ivy League in hitting this season with a .285 average. They are a small-ball team generally with 23 home runs as a team in 44 games; the Ducks have blasted 102. They run a lot-- 126 stolen bases this season, with an exceptional 84 percent success rate.

Their Friday pitcher is likely to be Tate Evans, a righthander from Flower Mound, Texas. He led the league with a 2.72 ERA this season and posted a 7-1 record, tops among Ivy hurlers, striking out 78 in 79.1 innings..

Evans is 6-0, 180 with a fastball that tops out at 89 mph, an effective changeup and a curveball he locates low in the strike zone. In two seasons of summer baseball he's held down pro prospects, compiling a 1.59 ERA while averaging 13.5 strikeout per nine innings. This season he's walked less than two batters per game.

Something to watch for is that the Ducks are aggressive swingers. While they led the Big Ten this season in hitting for power with 102 home runs they can also get themselves out, racking up 477 strikeouts this season as a team.

The Bulldogs' No. 2 starter Jack Ohman struck out 83 in 62 innings for a 5-2 record. He's the son of Will Ohman, who pitched in the major leagues for ten years. Last season he was the NCAA leader in ERA at 1.34, holding opponents to a .171 batting average, earning Ivy League Pitcher of the Year.

Ohman is a sophomore, a righthander from Brophy Prep in Phoenix. In tight situations Bulldogs coach Brian Hamm has used him as a closer.
