Quinn Ewers, the current starting quarterback of the Texas Longhorns, has had a rollercoaster of a season. From injuries to miraculous wins to dubious losses, nobody is quite sure what should come next for the Longhorns' QB. However, many are suggesting that Ewers enter the transfer portal once Texas' season comes to an end.
This is in large part due to the Horns' backup quarterback Arch Manning becoming the obvious succession plan for next season. The sophomore QB started a few games throughout the season when Ewers was sidelined with injuries and came in when Ewers needed to sit down to get his head in the game.
So, with Manning being the more-likely-than-not starting quarterback for the Horns next year and Ewers' NFL Draft stock falling throughout the 2024-25 season, the portal has become a more enticing destination for Texas' current starting quarterback.
With Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel reaching the end of his collegiate eligibility, there is technically a vacancy at starting QB for the Ducks.
Quinn Ewers is reportedly rumored to “becoming warmer” to the idea of transferring rather than entering the 2025 NFL Draft.

Programs like Oregon, Ohio State, and UNC could reportedly have a “high level of interest” in Ewers if he was to enter the transfer portal.

However, head coach Dan Lanning and offensive coordinator Will Stein recruited former UCLA quarterback Dante Moore to fill Gabriel's shoes after this season. The former Bruin played QB2 for the Ducks this season and basically acted as an understudy throughout the year.
If Lanning hypothetically recruited and offered Ewers to come to Oregon and the Texas quarterback theoretically committed to the Ducks, Moore would once again play the role of backup – most likely.

As Moore's eligibility dissipates, the young quarterback is going to want to be a part of a program where he will actually see in-game snaps instead of acting as the backup. If Ewers transferred to Oregon and became QB1, Lanning and the Ducks would most likely see Moore in the transfer portal once again.
Texas may have a succession plan with Manning but the Ducks have one of their own with Moore. Ewers has lost too much confidence and his decision-making abilities have been affected too greatly by injuries for him to become Oregon's starting quarterback, no matter how much experience he has.
