Before last week's game at Purdue, Terrance Ferguson had surgery on his appendix and was a scratch for Oregon football.
After the game, Dan Lanning said that he was expecting a quick recovery from his star tight end and that he shouldn't be out long. He said "he'll be back relatively quick" regarding Ferguson's return to the starting lineup but that he wanted to do what was best for his tight end.
So the update this week is that he's questionable for the Illinois game.
According to DucksWire, there is some speculation by those within the program that Ferguson could be back as early as Saturday against Illinois, but I'd be surprised if he was on the field.
So where is my pessimism coming from? Well, according to medical experts, you can usually resume normal activities between 1-3 weeks after an appendix removal but it can take up to six weeks to fully heal.
No, I'm not saying that Ferguson is going to miss six weeks, but rather he may be returning to "normal" activities closer to three weeks since he's an athlete and normal for him is a little more intense than let's say what a college professor deems normal everyday activities. He puts a little more stress on his body than a normal person.
After reading up on recovery time, I'd be leaning more toward him returning for the Michigan game next weekend in Ann Arbor than on Saturday afternoon against No. 20 Illinois, especially with how Kenyon Sadiq has looked.
No need to rush him back if Sadiq is going to get the job done.
