Justin Herbert, Chargers turn back Raiders on Monday Night Football, reach 2-0

Already Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers own a two-game lead over reeling division rival Kansas City.

On Monday Night Football from Las Vegas, Herbert put on a passing clinic with a gorgeous 60-yard touchdown throw to Quentin Johnson and a ten-yard strike in the right corner of the end zone to Keenan Allen as the Bolts cruised to a 20-9 win over the 1-1 Raiders.

Herbert completed 19-27 for 242 yards, his second game ball performance of the year after closing out a 27-21 win over Patrick Mahomes in Sao Paulo, Brazil eight days before.

The entire night of NFL action was a travelogue for Oregon football. In addition to Herbert's heroics, former Duck and Charger teammate Jamaree Caldwell racked up his first NFL sack. Ducks second all-time leading tackler Troy Dye posted three stops at linebacker.

The Chargers host Bo Nix, Troy Franklin and the Denver Broncos on Sunday, an early battle for first place in the AFC West.

The former president of the Sheldon High fishing club is living his best life as quarterback of the 2-0 Chargers. He signed a five-year, $262.5 million contract in July 2023 and he's dating a pop star.

Tall, rich and cool, it's always a great day to be an Oregon Duck quarterback.

Elsewhere in the NFL on Monday night, Duck running back Bucky Irving ran for 71 yards on 17 carries and caught six pases for 50 yards as Tampa Bay beat the Texans in Houston, 20-19.
