Justin Herbert proves he's ready for Week 1 with beautiful touchdown pass

Football season as a whole is nearly here as Saturday kicks off College Football's Week 0 while this weekend marks the final weekend of the NFL Preseason. The anticipation for football season is off the charts, and Oregon Football fans are chomping at the bit for game action. The Ducks enter the season as National Championship frontrunners, but won't play in Week 0, dragging out the impatience.

The good news for Oregon fans was that Thursday Night gave everyone a chance to watch two recent Oregon greats. Dillon Gabriel started at quarterback and looked incredible in the Browns' preseason finale before Justin Herbert got his final reps before kicking off a big season for the Chargers.

Justin Herbert connects for 65 yard touchdown in preseason finale

On Thursday Night, Jim Harbaugh elected to give his starters a chance to get some reps against the Rams before they kick off the regular season. The first drive ended poorly for Justin Herbert and the Chargers offense as he fumbled a handoff after a 9-yard gain.

On his second and final drive of the game, Justin Herbert quickly shook off the fumble and delivered a beautiful deep ball to a wide-open Quentin Johnston for a 65-yard touchdown.

Aside from the fumble, it was a nearly perfect, but brief, appearance for Herbert as he finished the night 2-for-3 passing for 74 yards and a touchdown. Justin Herbert didn't need the reps, but he's clearly ready for the season to begin with the deep ball he delivered.

This season is going to be important for the Chargers as they look to make a deep run in the Playoffs. Former Duck Bo Nix and the Broncos have become the power in the AFC West, and with Patrick Mahomes coming off a torn ACL, and the Raiders just picking Fernando Mendoza, the division is only going to get tougher.

The biggest hope for this season is that Justin Herbert will stay healthy, as this offense has a chance to be elite. Hiring Mike McDaniel as the offensive coordinator will only help Justin Herbert hit the next level, and with the offensive line healthy, the Chargers are primed to contend for a Super Bowl.
