Each weekend, Oregon Ducks fans get to sit back on Sundays and watch some recent program greats make plays at the NFL level. In recent years, Justin Herbert has been the biggest source of Oregon pride as he ascended to become one of the best quarterbacks in the league. This season, it's becoming sad to watch Herbert and the Chargers on a weekly basis.

Coming into the season, the Chargers had hopes of pushing for a Super Bowl and the team is instead racing for the 1st Overall Pick. Sunday's loss dropped the Chargers to 0-7 on the season, and while the team has plenty of problems, the list of issues starts with the play of Justin Herbert.

Justin Herbert playing like the NFL's worst QB is a puzzling development

No matter how you look at it, Justin Herbert has been arguably the worst starting quarterback in the NFL this season, which makes little to no sense given the way he's played throughout his career. Blame will be placed on the offensive line and on first year offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, but Herbert's decision making has been off the entire season.

On Sunday, Justin Herbert finished 24-32 for 257 yards and 2 interceptions, failing to score a touchdown.

Among qualified quarterbacks, Justin Herbert ranks 30th of 30 in EPA per play, which is shocking given some of the quarterbacks teams have been forced to play this season.

After throwing the pair of interceptions against the Rams, Herbert has now thrown an interception in each of the Chargers' games, adding to the issues for this team.

Some of the interceptions can't even be blamed on the offensive line, weapons, or confusion with the new scheme as Herbert threw an interception directly to a Rams defender on Sunday.

Right now, Justin Herbert is playing like he's lost on offense, and with the Chargers already sitting at 0-7 it may be best off for the team and him to sit him for a stretch. The confidence Hebert had in past seasons clearly isn't there, and it may be best for him to take a step back, especially with the coaching changes that could be coming.

Making the Playoffs is out of the question now, and the top priority for the Chargers has to be finding a way to get their franchise quarterback back to playing at a high level. The marriage between Mike McDaniel and Justin Herbert was clearly a mistake, and at this point, even firing him in season would be too late as the offense wouldn't change a ton.

This offseason is going to be important for the Chargers and Justin Herbert as the team could either return to contention or fall apart all together. Jim Harbaugh will have a massive decision to make on his future, and if he's sticking around, he'll have to work closely with the front office and his staff to find a way to get the most out of Herbert as this has become a lost season for the franchise.
