The popularity of the Oregon brand continues to grow at the professional and national levels. From LeBron James rocking Duck-colored shoes to former Oregon stars repping their old team in the NFL, the Ducks are seemingly everywhere.
Most recently, Miami Heat power forward Kevin Love showed up to his game against the Portland Trailblazers in an Oregon letterman jacket. However, Love wasn't wearing the jacket just to represent the green and yellow, the No. 1 football team, or the No. 15 basketball team.
Love was actually showing some love of his own to his father, Stan Love, who played collegiate basketball for the Ducks in the late 1960s to early 1970s.
After the game, Love shared the history of his father's career for the Ducks, including Stan holding the program record for points per game in conference play (27.3 PPG). Love's father went on to be a first-round draft pick by the Baltimore Bullets and is, to this day, one of just two Ducks to find himself on the leaderboard in both scoring and rebounding.
Love and the Heat went on to decimate the Blazers in their Saturday-night matchup with a 119-98 victory over Portland. While Love didn't take the court during the game, a decision made by head coach Erik Spoelstra, people took note of the power forward's pregame outfit.
Stan Love stats for Oregon Ducks
- 78 games played
- 21.1 points per game
- 10.5 rebounds per game
- 48.3 field goal percentage
- 70.7 free throw percentage
Love played three seasons for the Ducks, from 1968 to 1971, while Oregon was a part of the Pac-8. During his final year in Eugene, he averaged a resounding 24.6 points and 11.3 rebounds per game for a season average of a double-double.
