College football’s calendar is never ending, and as one window closes another is seemingly opening up. While the excitement for the college football season is ramping up with each day we’re closer to the start of the season, coaches are also tasked with recruiting. Dan Lanning and the Oregon coaching staff have already built an incredible 2027 recruiting class, and all eyes are now turning to the 2028 cycle.
Thus far, Dan Lanning and the staff are still looking for their first commitment in the 2028 recruiting cycle, but there’s no reason to be concerned as it’s still early. Recruiting any class starts with landing a quarterback as they’re often the first to come off the board. Dominos have already started to fall at quarterback in the 2028 class, and as things continue to shift, the Ducks look to be in perfect position.
Lincoln Riley’s move at QB only helps Oregon’s case for Josiah Boyd
Over the weekend, Lincoln Riley finally offered his first quarterback of the cycle, which is notable every year. The pick for Riley was Texas native Trey Wright, which came as a surprise given some of the quarterback talent out of the state of California in this cycle. As USC becomes a school to watch for Trey Wright, the insiders appear to be confident with how this recruitment will play out, as Rivals is predicting the Trojans will win out in this battle.

Oregon fans should be very happy with the news as it could take a serious threat out of the Josiah Boyd sweepstakes. Boyd had spoken about hoping for an offer from USC in the past, and if the Trojans pick Wright it could only strengthen the Ducks position for the potential 5-star quarterback.
According to Rivals’ Recruiting Rankings, Josiah Boyd is the 31st ranked player in the Country, the 2nd ranked quarterback in the class, and the 4th ranked player out of California.
Rivals has tabbed the Ducks as the early front runner for Josiah Boyd as insiders Brandon Huffman and Greg Biggins have predicted Oregon will land the commitment.
While Josiah Boyd appears to be the Ducks' top priority at quarterback, the coaching staff will continue to recruit other players at the position to ensure that there are options available in case a pivot is needed. The race for Boyd is far from over, but early on it's hard not to like where Oregon stands with the elite quarterback prospect.
