The Oregon Ducks were rolling on the recruiting trail as of late as the start of the busiest portion of the recruiting cycle brought several commitments for the Ducks. Just as the offensive line in this class started to come together, a new concern will bubble up for Dan Lanning and the staff to address. The new hole in Oregon's recruiting class is now defensive back, and it's become a hole due to former head coach Mario Cristobal.
Mario Cristobal flips Oregon's top defensive back commit
On Sunday Afternoon, the Oregon Ducks were dealt bad news as elite cornerback recruit Ai'King Hall flipped his commitment from Oregon to Miami.

The news isn't totally out of nowhere, as recruiting insiders were starting to express their belief over the past few days that Hall was trending away from the Ducks and toward the Hurricanes. Ai'King Hall announced his commitment to Oregon on April 6th, which is more surprising than that he'd pick the Ducks in the first place. Add in that Miami wasn't even a finalist when Hall picked the Ducks a month ago over Alabama, Georgia, and Texas, and it's truly bizarre.
According to Rivals' Industry Recruiting Rankings, Ai'King Hall is a 4-star recruit ranked as the 74th best player in the country, the 11th ranked cornerback in the class, and the top ranked player out of the state of Alabama.
Hall was the 3rd highest ranked recruit in Oregon's class and the top ranked defensive back for the Ducks before he decided to flip. Oregon's defensive back class now has some holes as the Ducks only hold a commitment from top-100 safety Semaj Stanford and Oregon native Josiah Molden at cornerback.
The fact that Ai'King Hall flipped to Miami only hurts more, given that he's picking Mario Cristobal along with Miami's other recent addition at cornerback. Last week, the Canes landed 5-star cornerback recruit Donte Wright, who was a major flip target for Oregon thus taking two top targets off the board for Dan Lanning and Company.
As the official visit season kicks off, Oregon will now need to re-adjust its cornerback room and try to get some of the top players on campus for official visits. If one future visitor is the top priority, it has to be 5-star defensive back Hayden Strepp. The Nevada Native is the 28th ranked player in the country, and brings the elite frame that this staff would love to work with.
Aside from Hayden Strepp, the Ducks are going to need to do some serious work to start trending for some of the other recruits in this cycle, as some of the best cornerback recruits have already committed to other programs.
The good news for Oregon is that despite losing one of the top commitments in the class, the recruiting class remains in the top 10 nationally. Dan Lanning and the staff will likely start to turn up the heat on other top targets as this should be an exciting summer on the recruiting trail.
