Missing on Donte Wright puts massive pressure on Oregon to land another elite 5-star DB

The top priority, as things currently stand, for the Oregon Football team is hitting the recruiting trail with the conclusion of Spring practices. Dan Lanning and his staff hold one of the Nation's top 10 recruiting classes, but they haven't gone on their yearly tear where they're constantly reeling in top 100 commits.

One of the top targets for the Oregon Ducks was 5-star cornerback Donte Wright, who the team was still recruiting despite his pledge to Georgia. On Saturday, it looked like Oregon might get good news as Wright announced he was flipping his commitment, but Miami and Mario Cristobal were the pick.

While Dan Lanning and the Ducks missed out on one of their top targets, the battle for Wright won't be over until he signs with a program. Even if Wright is still a target, the Ducks should now turn up the heat on another 5-star defensive back.

Hayden Stepp should be a top priority for Dan Lanning after Wright miss

While the Ducks may not land a 5-star defensive back in Donte Wright, that won't end Oregon's race for a 5-star defensive back. Hayden Stepp was named a top 4 earlier this spring, including Oregon along with the likes of Alabama, Georgia, and Cal.

The Bishop Gorman star is ranked as the 28th ranked player in the Country, the 4th ranked cornerback in the class, and the top ranked player out of Nevada. At 6-foot-3 and 175 pounds, Stepp already has the frame to be an elite cornerback at the next level, especially in a strength and conditioning program like Oregon's.

The Ducks are going to get their chance to pitch Stepp this Summer when he comes for his official visit in June, and it may be the best chance at signing a 5-star defensive back in this class. Adding in that Oregon signed his former teammate Jett Washington should only help the pitch if Oregon goes all in on Stepp.
