Week 2 of the college football season has arrived as ESPN's College GameDay crew is currently preparing us for a great day of high stakes games. Hearing the panel share their thoughts on everything they saw in Week 1 is always valuable, especially with someone like Nick Saban, who's the greatest coach in the history of the sport and has great insights about the week to week ins and outs of a team.
Some teams in Week 1 beat up on teams that, quite frankly, didn't belong on the same field as them, while Oregon faced a potential College Football Playoff team in Boise State. The fact that the Ducks were in a close battle led to a ton of overreactions, but in the end, the team will only be better for the test.
Nick Saban blasts the overreactions to Week 1
During the first hour of Saturday's College GameDay broadcast, the crew did a segment on the biggest overreactions from Week 1. Desmond Howard made his overreaction about the Oregon Ducks, and how they performed against Boise State.
"My overreaction is Oregon. Oregon struggled last week against Boise [State], especially in the first half, looked like they may lose the game. You've got to know every now and then, and then you come up against a team that kind of has your number, and they give you all they got. I think the Ducks are just okay. Right after Desmond Howard finished talking about Oregon and their Week 1 struggles, Nick Saban jumped right in blasting the College GameDay crew and the entire notion of overreacting to what teams show in their first game of the season.

Nick Saban has always hated the narratives the media can create, often calling any praise his teams would receiver "rat poison". Now that Nick Saban is in the media, he's able to give more balanced and nuanced takes on the teams, and it's refreshing.
Would every Oregon fan like if the Ducks beat Boise State in a blowout? Sure. Would Dan Lanning prefer that the game wasn't close? Probably not. Teams don't learn anything from winning by 40+ points, and coaches often want to see what their team is made of early in the season.
When the Ducks kick off against Oklahoma State on Saturday Morning, you'll likely see Oregon play a much cleaner game than we saw last week. Dan Lanning and the staff got to show the team that there's still plenty to clean up, and after the team heard all week that they're not as good as everyone thought, dropping in the AP Poll, they'll be looking to silence the critics and improve to 2-0.
Oklahoma State, like Oregon, will be looking to silence some Week 1 criticism after they lost to Tulsa. Eric Morris has built a promising roster, and the Cowboys have a chance to field an explosive offense if Drew Mestemaker and all the transfers can gel together.
