The nation's number one overall player, and Oregon target offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell has set his commitment date, and rescheduled his official visit to Oregon. His commitment could have a "domino effect" on Oregon;'s 2026 recruiting class, including five-star QB Jared Curtis.

Five-star offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell from Nixa, Missouri has set his commitment date for April 30, and will choose between Georgia, Miami, Ohio State, and Oregon, reports Hayes Fawcett for ON3 Sports. Cantwell is rated as the number one player in the nation, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Cantwell was originally scheduled to take his official visit to Oregon the weekend of April 19-20, but has changed it to attend the Ducks spring game, April 26. Cantwell will spend the following day in Eugene as well, per Fawcett. Oregon's spring game is consistently one of the biggest recruiting weekends of the year, part of the reason that Dan Lanning has vowed to always have a spring game in place, as long as he is the head coach.

Cantwell possesses a ridiculous blend of size, power and athleticism. Standing at nearly 6 feet 8 inches and over 300 pounds, he is a daunting size, and could be prepared to play very quickly, should he commit to the Ducks.

Should the five-star commit to Oregon, it could have serious implications for the remaineder of Oregon's targets in the 2026 class. Oftentimes, there are no better recruiters than the players committed in the same class. In the 2025 class, Akili Smith Jr. actively recruited five-star receiver Dakorien Moore to take his talents to Oregon, which he did.

With Curtis' committment date set for May 5, Cantwell's decision could be a partial deciding factor for him. Having an offensive lineman of Cantwell's size and caliber protecting you doesn't sound too bad. It is worth noting that Georgia is also on the list of options for Cantwell, and the only school outside of Oregon that Curtis is considering. This same idea could have serious negative consequences, in a worst case scenario.

Cantwell is a dual-sport athlete, also competing in shot put, and is the best in the nation in the event. He is the son of an Olympic silver medal shot putter, Christian Cantwell. His Mother was also an Olympic shot putter, competing in the 2000 summer Olympic games.

Cantwell's potential commitment to the Ducks would put together a trend of elite offensive linemen committing to Oregon. The most recent was Josh Conerly, the former number one offensive tackle in the nation, who we just saw wrap up a very successful college career with the Ducks, and is off to the NFL. Prior to Conerly was Penei Sewell, who was not as highly rated, but ended up starting early on for the Ducks, and took home the Outland Trophy for best lineman (offense or defense) in the nation, as well as unanimous all-American honors.

Cantwell setting his official visit date so close to his commitment is a positive sign for the Ducks. Having the final visit in any recruiting process is almost always a positive. With Cantwell's track ability, Track Town USA seems like a perfect fit.
