On the 100th Anniversary of the Goodyear Company, the Goodyear Blimp is in town to cover Saturday's game between Oklahoma State and Oregon on CBS, and Friday The Oregon Duck and two members of the rally squad were invited to take a ride on the historic dirigible.
The airships have been a staple at major events since 1925 beginning with The Pilgrim and The Duck's maiden voyage came on the fleet's semi-rigid upgrade, Wingfoot Three, based in Carson, California.
It's an iconic shot on national sports telecasts, this one beginning at 12:30 p.m. PT from Autzen Stadium on CBS. Oregon is a 28.5-point favorite over the visiting Cowboys.
The ride gave the iconoclastic Oregon mascot a bird's-eye view of Eugene and his favorite sports venue. On a clear day from passenger gondola you can see the O, the River Walk and the Harley, all of which The Duck took in with great delight, going through a cheer routine with his lovely teammates.
