Koi Perich, a 6-1, 190 safety and kick returner from Esko, Minnesota committed to the Ducks Monday night.
In two seasons with the Golden Gophers Perich established himself as a dynamic playmaker. He had five interceptions his first year and made freshman All-American. As a sophomore he averaged 26.3. yards per kick return and caught seven passes for 89 yards.
A two-year starter in the Big Ten, Perich is a likely replacment for Dillon Thieneman, who is likely headed for the NFL draft. The Ducks also picked up Carl Williams IV from Baylor to replace some of the depth they've lost in the portal, Kingston Lopa, Daylen Austin and others.
The portal as created an accelerating challenge for top teams. No one has depth anymore with 25-30 players entering, looking for their chance to be a starter somewhere. The Ducks did add five commitments on Monday:
-QB Dylan Raiola
-OT Michael Bennett
-WR Iverson Hooks
-DB Carl Williams IV
-S Koi Perich
A leader and playmaker with two years' starting experience
Perich is an aggressive, high-energy player, and fast. Recruiting website 247 Sports ranks him as the No. 1 safety in the portal and No. 11 transfer player overall. With over 4,000 players available, that's impressive.
