The New York Knicks fans aren't the only ones celebrating a championship in New York this weekend. On Sunday Afternoon, Oregon Ducks alum Wyndham Clark closed out the US Open despite an up and down showing to pick up his second career major win and his second win at the US Open.
Everything started perfectly for Wyndham Clark on Thursday when he took a commanding lead to start the event. Clark's opening round 64 gave him the lead at 7:09 PM Eastern on Thursday, and from there he was in total control.
Wyndham Clark wasn't nearly as red hot on Friday or Saturday shooting 69 and 70 respectively, but he gave himself more than enough cushion to hang on when the pressure was on.
Wyndham Clark blocks out the noise to win his second US Open
The story about Sunday was much less about Wyndham Clark's performance and more about the treatment he received from the fans. Throughout the day, fans were being ruthless to Clark to the point that fans were being thrown out. This wasn't a case from European fans rooting against an American at their tournament, but of hometown fans rooting against Clark.
The treatment Wyndham Clark is getting from the spectators here - at least what I can hear on TV - is an absolute disgrace. Classless.

I get Wyndham Clark isn't so popular, Scottie Scheffler is, he'd win the Grand Slam etc etc

And that some fans just want to see a contest, but the jeers for Clark, an American leading his national championship, just don't sit right with mepic.twitter.com/2QYcdZB1QB
I’m not sure we’ll see an American player at the U.S. Open get treated the way Wyndham Clark is being treated right now ever again. This is actually uncomfortable

Cops are booting people for shouting “Don’t choke Wyndham!” as he sets up to his shot. This young man got bounced for saying it before Clark’s tee shot at No. 4 pic.twitter.com/M1d1ZO687u

While the fans cheered against him, and other golfers surged, Wyndham Clark had to step up, and win the tournament. Just when things looked like they could get out of hand on the back nine, Clark locked back in, and the cushion proved to be key.
Just when it looked like Tom Kim could make a late run to steal the major away from Wyndham Clark, he came through with a massive birdie to move to 5 under, and seeminglyto win the tournament. Moments after his birdie putt, Tom Kim missed his par putt dropping him to -1 opening up a massive lead.
WYNDHAM CLARK! HUGE!

An unlikely birdie after his tee shot found the fescue. pic.twitter.com/RLO84XIltX
The improbable birdie on the 16th hole proved to be pivotal when Clark 3-putted on the 17th hole to open the door for Sam Burns who was the leader in the clubhouse at 3 under.
On the 18th tee, Wyndham Clark needed just a par to win the US Open, and he found the rough, but just missed the thickest area. A 9 iron onto the green gave Wyndham Clark 2 putts to secure the Claret Jug. It looked like Clark nailed his birdie putt, but left it just outside the cup, allowing him to tap in, and win the event.
Making the moment even more special was the fact that Wyndham Clark's father surprised him at the event on father's day.
Major championship hugs with dad.

It doesn't get better than that for Wyndham Clark. pic.twitter.com/8lvcPxf7av
The win gives Clark a second career major championship and his 6th career win between the PGA Tour and the European Tour. Since winning the US Open in 2023, Clark has had rocky showings in the majors so to see him get back on track this weekend is awesome to see.
Wyndham Clark's game has been in a great place as of late with his win at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in May, and as he remains in form, this could be a great year for the former Ducks' star. With just one major left to play, Clark can continue adding to his trophy case, and put together the best year of his career.
