After a trip to Super Regionals, the offseason has gone almost the exact opposite of how Mark Wasikowski and the Oregon Ducks would've hoped. The SEC invests in college baseball at a far higher level, and Oregon fell victim to that fact as superstar freshmen Angel Laya and Junior Lauaki, along with elite catcher Burke-Lee Mabeus, left for greener pastures.

While Oregon lost some of its biggest pieces, there are still plenty of reasons to believe in the program heading into next season. Mark Wasikowski just proved that he could win with his prep school signees, and he can look to build a new young core this season. Add in some of the under-the-radar transfers the Ducks landed along with returning players like Brayden Jaksa, and the team should be back to contending next season.

Oregon Baseball fans were given another reason to believe next season on Sunday Night when the Ducks finally made a big splash.

Mark Wasikowski lands star USC infielder Adrian Lopez in recruiting heist

After the MLB Draft wrapped up, which further muddied the outlook of the Oregon Baseball team next season, Mark Wasikowski and the coaching staff made a major splash. On Sunday Night, USC infielder Adrian Lopez quietly announced his destination, tweeting "Quack Quack", marking a big win for the Ducks.

While Adrian Lopez was in the Transfer Portal, he didn't hear his name called during the MLB Draft which allowed him to come to a decision as he had to return to college baseball.

Adrian Lopez is the high-level bat that Oregon needed to go out and get in order to replace losses like Angel Laya, Drew Smith, Junior Lauaki, and Burke-Lee Mabeus. Oddly enough, Oregon was one of the lone teams to quiet Lopez, but he did blast a home run which likely left an impression on the staff.

This season, Adrian Lopez was stellar for USC, posting a .304 batting average with 13 home runs and 47 RBIs. Adrian Lopez will likely hit at the top, if not the middle, of Oregon's order while helping fill the major voids in the infield with experience at Shortstop during his Long Beach State career and 1st base at USC.

When Adrian Lopez arrives in Eugene and gets to meet his new teammates, he won't be surrounded by fully new faces. Earlier in the offseason, Oregon landed former USC Pitcher Michael Ebner as the two cross sides in the rivalry.

Over the next several days, Oregon's roster for next season should start to become clearer with the MLB Draft coming to a close. The Ducks will learn about which signees will actually make it to campus, which players are coming back, and if they can pick up additional transfers who weren't picked in the draft.
