The Oregon Baseball season came to an end on Sunday Night as the Ducks fell to the Texas Longhorns in the Austin Super Regional. The year was very promising for Mark Wasikowski's program as several young pieces developed into stars, and barring any major losses to the Transfer Portal, the Ducks should return a great core.
The Ducks entered the Transfer Portal cycle with hopes of building on a solid young core, and building towards a trip to Omaha. Since the offseason began, this has instead turned into a miserable time for Ducks' fans as key pieces continue to depart for greener pastures.
Oregon Ducks baseball additions from the Transfer Portal
Carter Johnstone - Infielder - Vanderbilt
After a breakout freshman season at Fullerton, Carter Johnstone transferred to Vanderbilt for the 2026 season. Johnstone appeared in 18 games for the Commodores with 12 starts, including a start on Opening Day at 2nd base. Johnstone struggled at the plate this season with an average of just .143 after hitting .344 the year prior. The Ducks are getting a versatile infielder who can play 1st base, 2nd base, and 3rd base, and he could be a high upside addition if he can return to his freshman form at the plate.
Oregon got a first hand look at Carter Johnstone this Spring when the Ducks faced Vanderbilt in the Las Vegas Classic.
Jake Evans - Infielder - Long Beach State
The Oregon Ducks picked up infielder Jake Evans after two seasons playing for Long Beach State. Over his two seasons, Evans showed impressive improvement at the plate as a contact hitter jumping from a .192 average to .364 with 3 home runs this season. The hope will be that evans can continue to show a solid ability at the plate while playing solid at 2nd or 3rd base.
Jake Books - Outfielder - Tampa
Mark Wasikowski and the staff dipped into the Division II ranks to pick up outfielder Jake Books from Tampa. Books spent the 2024 and 2025 season with Coastal Carolina with an impressive 2024 season before missing most of the next season with injury. This season at Tampa, Books posted a .338 average with 8 home runs and 59 RBIs.
Oregon Ducks losses to the Transfer Portal
Angel Laya - Outfielder
Oregon suffered a bigger loss to the Transfer Portal than anyone could've imagined heading into the offseason as freshman phenom Angel Laya departs Eugene. As a freshman, Laya quickly became a star finishing the season with a .296 batting average with 14 home runs, 10 doubles, and 47 RBIs. Mark Wasikowski will be tasked with replacing another big bat in the lineup in an offseason where Drew Smith and Ryan Cooney head to the MLB.
Junior Lauaki - Infielder/Pitcher
After arriving at Oregon as a promising pitcher, Junior Lauaki developed into more than the staff ever could've hoped for. Lauaki instantly became one of the biggest power threats in the lineup this season, and a player who could've played both ways next season when healthy. Coach Wasikowski will now have to find a player who can fill the power role while also finding someone to fill the potential innings he would've pitched.
Burke-Lee Mabeus - Catcher
The Oregon Ducks are losing catcher Burke-Lee Mabeus who is draft elligble, but also entering the Transfer Portal. Mabeus was solid at the plate with 8 home runs this season, but the Buster Posey Award nominee was at his best defensively. Losing Mabeus hurts the lineup, but it'll have the biggest effect on the pitching staff as he was one of the best at stealing strikes, and an elite defender.
Collin Clarke - Pitcher
The Oregon Ducks' first loss to the Transfer Portal comes as pitcher Collin Clarke announced his decision to leave Eugene. Clarke spent most of the season as the Saturday Starter before being demoted to the bullpen. The move doesn't come as a surprise as Clarke will look to start elsewhere, and the Ducks could easily return their top three starting pitchers.
