The Oregon Ducks started the recruiting cycle slowly, but Dan Lanning and the coaching staff are having an incredible Summer. As the 4th weekend of official visits kicks off, the hope is that Oregon can continue to capitalize on commitments like we've seen leaving each weekend. While the fans love the 5-star commitments, Dan Lanning and the staff have been impressive with adding solid pieces that are ranked lower to this class.

This recruiting cycle has also seen Oregon place a higher priority on in-state recruits than we've seen in recent cycles. The Ducks had already added 3 of the state's top 4 recruits, and on Friday, the coaching staff closed out another recruitment for a perfect 4 for 4.

Oregon lands in-state edge rusher Josh Christensen

On Friday Afternoon, the Oregon Ducks added to the recruiting class again, picking up a commitment from in-state edge rusher Josh Christensen. The Ducks had to beat out Oklahoma, Washington, Cal, and others, but in the end, being the hometown team proved to be key.

Josh Christensen joins an Oregon recruiting class that's filled with in-state talent as the coaching staff has put a different level of focus into keeping players in-state. Josh Christensen joins Josiah Molden, Malachi Garlington, and George VanSandt in the Ducks' impressive haul of in-state talent.

According to Rivals' Industry Recruiting Rankings, the Lake Oswego star is a 3-star recruit ranked as the 1,121st ranked player in the country, the 102nd ranked edge rusher in the class, and the 2nd ranked player out of Oregon.

While some members of the fanbase will overlook the 3-star additions, it's a clear strategy by Dan Lanning and the staff. As the highest ranked players carry big price tags, picking up pieces you can develop over time without breaking the bank is going to become a focus for every program.

It's often hard to judge in-state recruits, and their potential impact at the next level, but plenty stands out on film for Christensen. At the High School level, Christensen has shown an ability to play on the interior while he's quick off the ball with a nice array of moves for the level.

The edge rush room in this recruiting class has quickly filled up as Oregon may be set at the position. Rashad Streets is the headliner as a 5-star according to 24/7 Sports, but Christensen and Achilles Reyna each bring a ton to be excited about.

The Ducks have done a nice job building out the recruiting class this Summer as Oregon is now up to 18 commitments on the cycle accounting for the Nation's 8th ranked class. Some of the top targets for the Ducks are still preparing to make a decision, and if Oregon can seal a few big name commitments, this will have a chance to keep Oregon's streak of signing top 5 classes alive.
