The 2028 recruiting cycle is moving into focus as the start of the High School football season, and the arrival of the college football season only speed up the process. As recruits enter their Junior season of High School football, some players like to lock their college decisions in to focus on continuing to develop.
It's still very early in the 2028 recruiting cycle as Oregon is without a commitment, but that could quickly start to shift. The Ducks are going to have a busy fall hosting recruits, and it should lead to some dominoes falling in Oregon's favor.
Oregon battling USC for elite DB recruit Ca'ron Williams
As coaches have begun to build relationships with the recruits in the 2028 recruiting cycle, the battles for the players are starting to take shape. Rivals' Greg Biggins spoke about the recruits Oregon is emerging as a contender for early on, and the battle for defensive back Ca'ron Williams is quickly becoming a duel worth paying attention to.
"Ca'ron Williams, Santa Margarita High School, plays for Carson Palmer. USC was always thought to be you don't want to use the word locked, but pretty close to that. But recently he said you know, Oregon's actually the school pushing the hardest for me. I still like USC, but I think Oregon is starting to make a push there."Greg Biggins
Considering that Ca'ron Williams is a California native, playing High School football for a former USC star as his head coach, it's not going to be easy to pull off a win, but in most battles it never is. Considering that Oregon is the team making the biggest surge, the Ducks giving the Trojans a run for their money is certainly notable.
Based on the scouting report for Ca'ron Williams, he sounds like a perfect fit in the nickel role in Oregon's defense with the chance to either find a bigger role at safety or as a boundary cornerback.
"This kid's really good, man. He's that corner potential nickel, lockdown kid who's been one of the top corners out here in Southern California since he was just a freshman."Greg Biggins
According to Rivals' Industry Recruiting Rankings, Ca'ron Williams is the 170th ranked player in the Country, the 17th ranked cornerback in the class, and the 10th ranked player in the state of California.
The most important task for Dan Lanning and the Ducks staff is getting Ca'ron Williams on campus for a visit, which could start to swing things in Oregon's favor. Williams has already taken several trips to USC, and the Ducks won't truly emerge as a threat to land the California native until he shows up on the sidelines for a game this Fall.
