This time in the college football calendar becomes the biggest stretch for recruiting, especially with the elimination of the spring Transfer Portal window. Dan Lanning has made it a yearly tradition to sign a top 5 recruiting class in the country, and as the Oregon Ducks continue to push for a National Championship, stacking that level of talent is pivotal.

As things currently stand, Oregon holds the Nation's 9th ranked recruiting class, and the 3rd ranked class in the Big Ten. While Dan Lanning and his staff still have to climb to sign another elite recruiting class, with the official visit season well underway, the commitments should continue to roll in for this staff.

Oregon could stun Alabama despite family ties to 5-star wide receiver

The biggest concern with the current construction of Oregon's recruiting class would be the fact that the Ducks haven't landed a pass catcher while only having a single skill player committed on offense. That should only change for the Ducks, and rather quickly, given how well the staff has positioned themselves with some of the top recruits at the wide receiver position.

Among the top ranked wide receivers in the class is Glassboro, New Jersey 5-star recruit Xavier Sabb. At first glance, everyone assumed that Xavier Sabb would follow in the footsteps of his brothers Keon and Amari Sabb, as both are currently playing for the Crimson Tide, but as of late, that narrative is quickly shifting.

While the family ties in Alabama are strong, it appears that Oregon may be the team to beat for one of the most sought after recruits in the country regardless of position. On Rivals' recruiting show "The Wilftong Whiparound", recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong had the following to say about the Ducks and Xavier Sabb.

"Xavier Sabb and Julius Jones are two other 4-stars, heavily coveted guys that Oregon is at the top or near the top, and may be the front runner for Xavier Sabb, even though both his brothers play at Alabama."

It's obviously going to take a massive effort to outduel Alabama for Xavier Sabb, all things considered. The Crimson Tide has developed wide receivers at an elite level over the years while the chance to play with his brother Amari Sabb may be too much to turn down.

On the other hand, with Will Mencl on board and Oregon's recent track record of development, the Ducks are a great choice. Sabb can pair himself with an elite quarterback recruit and develop alongside Mencl, setting the two up for long term success.

According to Rivals' Industry Recruiting Rankings, Xavier Sabb is a 5-star recruit ranked as the 22nd best player in the country, the 4th ranked wide receiver in the class, and the top player out of New Jersey. The 6-foot-0, 195 pound wide receiver had a monster season leading Glassboro to it's second straight National Championship with 59 catches for 897 yards and 13 touchdowns with a kick and punt return touchdown.
