The past few weeks have seen the 2028 recruiting cycle come into focus as top recruits keep flying off the board while others are setting their schedules for gameday visits this fall. Between how well Dan Lanning and this coaching staff already recruit, and the buzz around the Ducks being a National Championship contender, it should be a busy season of recruits visiting Eugene.
While the Ducks haven't landed a commitment in the 2028 recruiting cycle, the coaching staff has clearly positioned itself well to start reeling in commitments. The latest player the Ducks have gotten good news on is elite defensive back Ca'ron Williams.
Elite DB Ca'ron Williams includes the Ducks in top 12
On Thursday, elite defensive back recruit Ca'ron Williams announced his recruitment was down to 12 schools, including the Oregon Ducks in the mix.

According to the Rivals' Industry Recruiting Rankings, Ca'ron Williams is the 170th ranked player in the Country, the 17th ranked cornerback in the class, and the 10th ranked player in the state of California.
While a top 12 makes it hard to get excited at this point in the recruitment, the Ducks aren't just in the mix near the bottom of the list, they're one of the top teams in this recruitment. Over the weekend, Rivals' Greg Biggins spoke about Ca'ron Williams' recruitment, declaring Oregon was battling USC at the top of this race.
"Ca'ron Williams, Santa Margarita High School, plays for Carson Palmer. USC was always thought to be you don't want to use the word locked, but pretty close to that. But recently he said you know, Oregon's actually the school pushing the hardest for me. I still like USC, but I think Oregon is starting to make a push there."Greg Biggins
Considering that Ca'ron Williams is a California native who plays for a former USC Trojans star in Carson Palmer, this isn't going to be an easy battle for the Ducks to win out in. While the Trojans have been seen as the frontrunner, hearing that Oregon is pushing them in this battle is great news, and it could be what tilts this in the Ducks' favor.
Ca'ron Williams could fit many roles in the Ducks defense as he's been a great nickel cornerback in High School which could either lead to him playing the STAR role or traditional cornerback if he can transition to playing outside.
The next step now for the Ducks is to get Williams on campus for a gameday visit, which should only help with continuing to build momentum.
