Oregon Ducks linebacker Jaxson Jones plans to enter the transfer portal

The Oregon Ducks have had their second player of the season announce that he plans to enter the transfer portal. The freshman linebacker Jaxson Jones shared that he would enter the portal with On3's Hayes Fawcett on Sunday, Dec. 8.
Jones took just one snap during the regular season – in Oregon's game against the Maryland Terrapins. He was a three-star prospect coming out of high school in 2024 and can reportedly line up as either an edge rusher or a linebacker.
When he enters the portal, Jones will maintain four years of eligibility after not hitting the four-game maximum that is required for a player to use his redshirt.
Jones' announcement came just one week after fellow freshman Jac'Qawn McRoy announced that he would enter the transfer portal when it opened. McRoy, a freshman tackle, will also enter the portal with four years of eligibility remaining.
Jones, who is from Yuma, AZ, earned a lot of offers from former Pac-12 schools during his high school recruiting process including Cal, USC, Utah, Washington, and Oregon State. The three-star prospect initially committed to the Washington Huskies but decommitted from the program on Jan. 23, 2023.
While it's never ideal to lose players to the transfer portal, the Oregon Ducks are far from lacking in regards to talented players on the roster. Beyond the already stacked lineup that Dan Lanning has crafted in Eugene, a jaw-dropping class of 2025 is bound for the Ducks – currently ranked No. 3 in the country.
The No. 1 Oregon Ducks are in the midst of preparing for the Rose Bowl Game – their first matchup in the College Football Playoffs after earning a first-round bye. The Ducks will face the winner of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Tennessee Volunteers' first-round game.
The Rose Bowl Game is set to kick off at 2 p.m. PT on Jan. 1, 2025. The game will be broadcast on ABC and ESPN+.
