Ionescu, Sabally and WNBA champs book exhibition in Mat Knight

Duck legend and all-time scoring leader Sabrina Ionescu, Nyara Sabally and the WNBA Champion New York Liberty have scheduled a pre-season game at Mat Knight Arena in Eugene on May 12.

They'll play the Toyota Antelopes, a professional basketball club based in Nagoya, Aichi, playing in the Women's Japan Basketball League, currently touring the United States. They played the WNBA Dallas Wings in February.

The Liberty won their first-ever WNBA Championship last October, defeating the Minnesota Lynx three games to two. Ionescu scored 18.2 points a game last season with 4.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists, second in scoring behind forward Breanna Stewart.

Sabally led the Ducks in scoring and rebounding for two seasons in 2020-21 and 2021-22, twice all-PAC-12. In the championship finall win over the Lynx she came off the bench to score 13 points with 7 rebounds and a steal as NY won 67-62 in overtime.

The Eugene stop is scheduled for Monday May 12 at 7 p.m. PDT at Mat Knight Area, tickets as low as $16.

It brought the UO nine to 29-12 on the season. They'd won the series opener 4-2 on Friday night. Collin Clarke pitched six innings for the win, allowing one run and four hits, striking out four.

Ryan Featherston pitched two innings of scoreless relief, then Jaxon Jordan and Sam Boyle closed out the ninth. The Ducks go for the sweep Sunday at 12:05 p.m. PDT.

Oregon softball takes game two from Hoosiers

Alone in first place at 16-2, Melyssa Lombardi's softball squad took down Indiana 9-1, clinching their weekend series at IU.

Rylee McCoy belted her 15th home run of the season, setting a record for an Oregon freshman. She drove home three runs in the game with a single, a sacrific fly and the round tripper.

The Ducks used three pitchers with Elise Sokolsky getting the win in relief to reach 12-2.
