Recruiting enters a dead period Monday, accompanied by decision bombshells

June 23 begins a Dead Period in football recruiting. Coaches typically take a break with their families before staff retreats and media days. On-campus visits end this weekend, though players can still visit D2 and D3 schools.

For the next three weeks commitment news rules college football. Notre Dame made a splash yesterday, getting decisions from Philadelphia safety Joey O'Brien and Towson, Maryland cornerback Khary Adams, two Oregon targets.

The Ducks landed 6-5 Bishop Gorman safety Jett Washington on Thursday. Oaks Christian safety Davon Benjamin is visiting Washington this weekend while elite two-way player Jalen Lott of Texas trips to Eugene.

Duck Sports Authority's Scott Reed offered an excellent overview of Oregon's recruiting situation in his "Flocktalk" column yesterday. It's been a tumultuous cycle in the game where, as Reed points out, Missouri has spent $31.7 million on athletes in the last 12 months.

Justin Wilcox and the Cal Bears are No. 9 in the most recent Rivals 2026 team rankings. That's when you know that things are upside down.

The Ducks have been patient and strategic, and they haven't overpaid for any player in this crazed market. Some key decisions over the next 20 days should bring clarity. Ryder Lyons and Immanuel Iheanacho announce soon. Maryland linebacker Nick Abrams is visiting Oregon.

Matayo Uiagalelei is a crossover video star and magazine cover subject

Duck edge rusher Matayo Uiagalelei takes aim this season at the Oregon single-season sack record of 13. Off the field, he's making news everywhere, featured on the cover of Lindy's college football magazine and in the trailer for EA Sports College Football 26.

This week Uiagalelei took some cuts at PK Park, displaying home run power. In his time away from football he's a rap music producer with a studio setup in his room. But it all starts with football.

Former Oregon coach Mario Cristobal faces court date

Ross Dellenger of CBS reports that the University of Wisconsin has filed suit against Miami for poaching defensive back Xavier Lucas while he was under contract.

Dellenger wrote, Wisconsin claims that Miami communicated with Lucas, “knowingly inducing” him, despite knowing he had entered a contract with the school, something it terms as “intentional” interference that “was not justified or privileged” and caused Lucas to “breach” his contract.

It's a test of the murky arrangements in a sport that lacks standardized contracts and a collective bargaining agreement, with insane amounts of money being thrown around in unlimited free agency.

The Big Ten is supporting the Badgers in the suit.
