Dan Lanning speaks candidly about Rose Bowl loss

On the "Bussin' with the Boys" podcast Oregon head coach Dan Lanning gave a frank answer when asked about Oregon's embarrassing 41-21 loss to Ohio State in the Rose Bowl.

He admits the loss still haunts him and he's determined to use it as fuel in his quest to get Oregon over the hump as a nationally-relevant program.

Lanning told hosts Taylor Lewan and Will Compton,

“That medicine, I wake up every night about that medicine. We struggled early on beating Washington when I first started here. We were able to get over that hump.”

“It makes me hungry to go back to work”

Former Duck guard drafted by Atlanta Dream

Monday night at the WNBA draft, Oregon guard Deja Kelly was passed over, not selected among the 36 college players taken by the 13 WNBA teams.

A former Oregon point guard, Te-Hina Paopao, who transferred to South Carolina to play for Dawn Staley, heard her named called in the second round, chosen 18th overall by the Atlanta Dream.

A McDonald's All-American and California Ms. Basketball at LaJolla Country Day School in La Jolla, California, Paopao started for two seasons at Oregon, replacing Sabrina Ionescu.

As a freshman she scored 10.4 points a game with 4.4 assists, boosting that to 13.6 points a game as a sophomore, All-PAC-12 both seasons. As a junior she chipped in 13.1 points a game, a sizzling 44% from three-point range.

For her senior year in 2024 Paopao transferred to the NCAA women's basketball juggernaut South Carolina, where she won a national championship a season ago while leading the nation in three-point percentage at a phenomenal 46.8%.

The 5-9 deadeye shooter didn't attend the glitzy draft event at The Shed in Manhattan, electing to watch it at home instead surrounded by friends and family. She told the Greenville News,

"I'll be having the draft party at home just because I want my family to be there," Paopao said in open locker room on Sunday after the 82-59 loss to UConn in the national championship on April 6. "I want to start with the people that have been there for the journey, for the ride. I'm just really excited for my next journey and just super proud."

Oregon softball on TV tonight

Fresh off a three-game series sweep of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Melyssa Lombardi's No. 6-ranked, 38-4 softball squad makes the short bus trip to Corvallis to take on Oregon State at Kelly Field.

Scheduled for 6 p.m. PDT the game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and carried on radio at KWVA. The two teams met previously at OSU on April 2nd, with the Ducks coming away with a 9-1 victory, in March at the Jane Sanders Classic with the Barkrats pulling off an upset, winning 5-2.

For the Ducks it's a tuneup for their three-game weekend series against No. 5 UCLA, 40-5 and tied for first place in the Big Ten at 12-1.

The Ducks play an exciting brand of softball. They've clubbed 64 home runs this season while stealing a school-record 139 bases. Kedre Luschar leads the team in hitting batting .474, third in the Big Ten. Starting pitchers Lyndsey Grein and Elise Sokolsky have combined for a 33-2 record in the circle. Grein stands second in the conference in ERA at 1.27; Sokolsky is third at 1.92.
