Former Oregon defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt arrested, charged
Oregon defensive coordinator in 2017 and 2018, Jim Leavitt was arrested in St. Petersburg Monday night after an argument with a former girlfriend turned physical.
Leavitt is charged with stealing a Louis Vuitton purse and wallet valued at over $5000, a felony, plus misdemeanor battery and assault. According to the report from the AP he pushed a man who was present at the scene.
Now 68, his most recent job in college football was as SMU defensive coordinator in 2021. Back in 2010 the Bulls fired him after an investigation into allegations he struck a player in the locker room at halftime.
The team's first-ever head coach, he compiled a 95-57 record. In his two years with the Ducks the team ranked 81st and 48th in scoring defense with a 16-10 record, 9-4 with wins over Washington, Oregon State and in the RedBox Bowl against Michigan State in 2018 under Mario Cristobal.
Leavitt was due to be inducted into the USF Hall of Fame this fall. While head coach there he met the Ducks at the 2007 Sun Bowl, losing 56-21.
