Romero takes lead in Round 2
Sophomore Kiara Romero of the Oregon Women's Golf team is tied at Augusta.
She shot a second-round, four-under-par 68 to move into a first-place tie at the sixth annual Augusta Women's National, tied with Lottie Woad of England, the defending champion. Her two-day total of 135 (67-68) leaves her one shot ahead of three golfers at -8.
The final round of the tournament is scheduled for Saturday on NBC. Caddying for Romero is her sister Kaleiya, a GA at Oregon who competed at Pepperdine University last year. Kiara told the "Golfweek" website, "I feel like this week I've been like the happiest I've ever been on the course. I feel like, if you see me last year making a double, I'm definitely not happy. I'm definitely not looking around smiling at anyone.
"Today was a lot different. I kind of was really proud of myself for the way I handled it and kind of moved on from it."
College Football analyst predicts regression for the Ducks
Patrick Weider of "Mike Farrell Sports" tabs Oregon as one of four Big Ten teams who could regress in 2025, though when a team goes undefeated and wins the conference in its first year, there's a wide margin for regression.
"I do not think Oregon will fall off a cliff, but the Ducks will probably lose a game or two in the Big Ten. For example, Oregon's away schedule in the Big Ten is tough in 2025 as they play Penn State, Iowa and Washington. None of those road games will be easy for Oregon to win. The Ducks also lost a veteran team, especially at quarterback with the departure of Dillon Gabriel. "Patrick Weirder, Mike Farrell Sports
Among Weider's other candidates for a fallback are Ohio State, Indiana and Iowa. He notes the Buckeyes lost 8 starters on defense, while Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes face a much tougher schedule. Curt Cignetti and the Hoosiers have to deal with road games to Oregon, Penn State and Iowa, a much tougher slate than last year's Cinderella season and playoff run.
