Scouting report on Jalen Lott reveals dynamic playmaking skills
At his new home Duck Sports Central, longtime Rivals analyst and essayist Scott Reed breaks down the film of Oregon's newest commit, four-star wide receiver/athlete Jalen Lott of Panther Creek High in Frisco, Texas.
Reed is bullish on the dual-sport athlete, who displays exceptional explosiveness as a high jump and long jump champion, a similar background to current Duck star Evan Stewart, also out of Texas.
Lott possesses tremendous potential in his vertical and ball skills, speed and acceleration, body control and versatility. Reed writes:
"While already productive, refining his route running — particularly against complex college coverages — will be key to maximizing his potential as a receiver at the next level. Sharpening his releases, adding nuance to his breaks, and expanding his route tree will help him become even more dangerous."
Dan Lanning places high in PFF's Top College Coaches
Max Chadwick of PFF ranks the top ten coaches in college football, and the top three have all won a national championship. Kirby Smart and Dabo Swinney have won two and are strong contenders this year. Ryan Day is the reigning national champion, achieved in his sixth year as a head coach.
In fourth on the PFF list is Dan Lanning, 36-5 after three seasons. Lanning has improved each year as he's built his program and established his culture, from 10-3 to 12-2 to 13-1 and Big Ten Champions in Year 3.
Chadwick writes, "Lanning might not have a national championship like the three above him on this list, but that might only be a matter of time at the rate he’s going. He’s won 85.4% of his games during his three seasons as the Ducks’ head coach, trailing only Day among coaches on this list."
