Duck-powered Chargers drop Chiefs in South American opener
The team with four Ducks beat the team with one Duck in the second-ever NFL game from Brazil Friday night, Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers taking a wire-to-wire victory over the AFC Champion Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes, 27-21.
Pro Duck linebacker Troy Dye made a key stop on Mahomes, not falling for one of his patented downfield pump fakes, laying a lick on the $503 million quarterback. A fifth-year pro like his quarterback teammate, Dye posted five tackles in the win, three solo.
After the game Herbert, Dye, Kansas City linebacker Jeffrey Bassa, Chargers defensive reserves Jamaree Caldwell and Nikko Reed took an on-field photo, part of a proud contingent of 35 Ducks now on active rosters in the NFL.

Herbert was the star at Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo. The sixth-year NFL starter completed 25-34 passes for 318 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Chargers on a touchdown and field goal drive to take a 10-0 lead early in the first half, putting the game away in the fourth with an 11-play, 74-yard drive, then scrambling 19 yards on third and 14 to ice it.

The game ended five years of frustration for the Sheldon High School (Eugene, Oregon) three-sport star. In his NFL career his team had gone 1-7 against Mahomes and KC, and now they own a one-game lead in the AFC West.
They'll return to action on Monday night September 15 with a road game at Las Vegas, another battle for bragging rights with Pro Duck Jackson Powers-Johnson, a Raiders guard in his second year in the league.
Sabrina, Sabally sit out again as Liberty top Seattle
Defending champion New York withstood the Storm in Depression City, 84-76 as Pro Ducks Nyara Sabally and Sabrina Ionescu sat out the game with lingering injuries.
The champs got 24 points from Breanna Stewart and 21 from Leonie Fiebech as they reached 25-17, currently fifth in the league with just two regular season games left before the playoffs begin on September 14.
New York is 23-13 with Ionescu in the lineup, 1-4 without her. Nursing a big toe injury, she's expected back in time for the playoffs.

Soccer wraps up nonconference slate with defensive battle in Seattle
Also in The City That Ever Weeps, Oregon Women's Soccer dropped a 2-1 decision to the Seattle U. Skyhawks as they fell to 2-4-1 in nonconference play. They open the Big Ten season at UCLA on September 13, TV on Big Ten+.
Forward Addison Boyer put away a corner kick from midfielder Carly McCormack to tie the score 1-1, but in the 70th minute the Hawks' Alana Lamb converted another corner for the decider. Seattle is undefeated this season 3-0-3.
The Ducks outshot their opponents 18-6 but continue to have some tough luck scoring goals. Keeper Caeley Goldstein recorded one save as she and the defense have kept the Ducks close in all seven of their matches.
