Duck slugger Jacob Walsh blasts first pro homer

Playing for the Fredericksburg Nationals in the Single-A Carolina League, Oregon career home run leader Jacob Walsh hammered a 1-1 pitch deep to right field for his first minor league homer.

Walsh had gotten off to a slow start with the Nats, batting .095 before sending a low pitch into the picnic area. In four years at Oregon he hit 59 bombs, the all-time program leader in HRs, multi-hit games and RBI.

Back on April 5th he smashed a two-run homer and a two-run single in a 13-3 rout of Michigan. For the season he hit .332 with 19 HRs and 60 RBI as Oregon tied UCLA for the regular season Big Ten championship at 22-8.

Brooklynn Haywood commits to Oregon

Union High School 2026 combo guard (Camas, Washington) Brooklynn Haywood committed to the Ducks Thursday, a five-star, 5-7 sharpshooter who led all Washington girls in scoring last season with 31.4 points per game, shooting over 40 percent from 3-point range.

“Kelly Graves has come out with some great point guards,” Haywood said. “That’s kind of one of the things he’s known for is just having amazing point guards with high IQs. Also, it’s close to home, so that was a plus. It’s two and a half hours from where I’m at now. I really love the campus and the coaches are amazing.”

Haywood chose the Ducks over Baylor and Utah.

Duck women's soccer drops 1-0 heartbreaker to Sacramento State

At the Outrigger Soccer Kickoff in Waipahu, Oahu, Hawaii, Tracy Joyner's squad battled but a corner kick in the 64th minute by the Hornets' Jaety Mandaquit proved the difference in a defensive standoff, just the first goal allowed by the Ducks in three games this season in their 1-1-1 start.

The team plays host Hawaii on Sunday in Oahu at 7 p.m. PT.
