The college football season is officially underway, but Oregon fans will have to wait another season to watch the team in action. Aside from counting down the days until the Ducks are in action, Oregon fans can start to get excited about the potential to pair a special season with a special showing on the recruiting trail.
Given the Ducks' status as a National Championship favorite, it's going to be a busy season hosting recruits in Eugene, as most of the Nation's top recruits are going to want to take a look at what Oregon has to offer. Dan Lanning has made signing top 5 ranked classes a tradition, and you can't pull off the feat without landing elite recruits.
Oregon battling Mario Cristobal for elite edge rusher Kameron McGee
The 2028 recruiting cycle is coming into focus as the vast majority of 2027 recruits have already committed to programs. With the 4th ranked class in the country already in place, Dan Lanning and the Ducks are now focusing on starting to build a 2028 class.
Rivals' Steve Wiltfong broke down the top prospects for Oregon fans to watch for the Ducks in the class, and a familiar foe stands in the way of Oregon and elite edge rusher Kameron McGee.
"Edge rusher Kameron McGee out of Chicago, Oregon and Miami are two that I think are in prime position. He's also got visit set with Texas this fall and Georgia. But Kameron McGee, he's been out to Eugene. He might be their top pass rusher on the board."Steve Wiltfong
According to the 247 Sports recruiting rankings, Kameron McGee ranks as the Nation's No. 1 overall player regardless of position. The Chicago, IL native plays his High School football for the Brother Rice Crusaders, which has become a big school for the Ducks to target. McGee is High School teammates with elite defensive tackle Brayden Parks who picked Notre Dame over Oregon this Summer.
Early in his career, Kameron McGee spent time at wide receiver before developing a 6-foot-2 frame at 250 pounds, becoming a monster off the edge. As a Sophomore, Kameron McGee finished his season with 21 tackles for a loss and 10.5 sacks, putting the nation on notice as a top pass rusher recruit.
Battling Georgia and Texas alone is never easy with the talent they've developed in the trenches, but it appears that Oregon is ahead of both schools early in this recruitment. The biggest threat appears to be Mario Cristobal and Miami, who just developed a pair of 1st-round edge rushers in Rueben Bain Jr and Akheem Mesidor.
This season, Oregon can only strengthen it's position in McGee's recruitment if players like Matayo Uiagalelei and Teitum Tuioti post stellar seasons. Landing McGee would instantly put the Ducks in the race for the Nation's top ranked recruiting class, and it'll be one of the most important battles to watch this cycle.
