Oregon football has all the makings of a national title team

What makes a legit national title contender? It's a combination of good coaching, efficient offense, a top-tier quarterback, and a stingy defense. You know who has all of that? Oregon football.

Following a 32-31 thrilling win over No. 2 Ohio State, the Ducks showed the country that they have what it takes to win a national title with its current roster.

Oregon has good coaching with Dan Lanning, an efficient offense led by Dillon Gabriel, a top-tier quarterback (as mentioned already), and a defense that could suffocate most opponents. Giving up 31 points to Ohio State and Boise State isn't exactly a horrible result, but it shows that elite offenses can beat the Ducks, on occasion.

Oregon currently ranks 18th in total offense, 29th in scoring offense, 15th in passing yards, and 66th in rushing while also ranking 19th in total defense, 31st in scoring defense, 35th in passing defense, and 30th in rushing defense.

Essentially, this team is about as complete as you can get on both sides of the ball.

The Ducks score at a high rate, pass the ball well, could run the ball better but still have one of the nation's top running backs, and defend as well as anyone whether it comes to the run or the pass. Ranking in the top 20 in total offense and total defense usually means that you're going to be sticking around when the playoff field is set.

Lanning is an elite coach who surrounded himself with an elite staff and has one of the nation's best quarterbacks, running backs, a top-tier receiving corps, a great tight end, and a defense to boot. This team has all the makings of a legitimate national title squad.

And it only took six games for the rest of the nation to take notice.
