Oregon has its first commitment of the 2027 class. Prince Tavizon, a 6-4, 235 four-star edge rusher from Lincoln High School in San Diego, committed to the Ducks during a visit this weekend.
Lincoln is the school that brought Lew Barnes, Akili Smith Sr., Tyree Robinson, Tyrell Robinson, Isiah World, Jahlil Tucker, Jahlil Florence and Akili Smith Jr. to Oregon. Tavison breaks a string of recruiting misses and setbacks for Dan Lanning and his staff, providing some much-needed momentum going into the massive visit calendar in June.
Plus he's a really, really good football player.
The Ducks needed to replenish their future stock at edge, with Matayo UIagalelei and Teitum Tuioti eligible for the NFL draft after the 2025 season. Tavison's commitment takes some of the sting out of Richard Wesley's decommitment.
Although they're still pursuing Wesley and he's making an official visit to Oregon on June 6th, this shows the Webfoot staff remains determined to build their foundation through high school recruiting and developing top players of the future.
MaxPreps named Tavison to their sophomore All-American Team in 2024 after he led the Hornets to the California Division 1-AA State Championship last season.
He piled up 90 tackles, 15 for loss, 13 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles, an impact player with skills like Uiagalelei or Kayvon Thibodeaux as a young prospect.
The Ducks won a battle with USC for his commitment. Given some of the setbacks they've had in West Coast recruiting over the last few months, that's big. Rivals ranks Tavison as the No. 245 prospect in the country and No. 18 edge rusher.
He explodes off the edge from a Wide-9 position, displaying both power and speed. Tavison pursues with exceptional desire and intelligence-- 14 sacks in a tough division in California prep football.
He can blow up tackles with a strength move or beat them with quickness, pursuing sideline-to-sideline with tremendous desire and tenacity. He's disruptive, strong, smart.
He keeps working and rushes under control, wraps up. Tavison finishes plays and has the strength and agility to defeat a blocker, set the edge and wrestle the quarterback down (1:04 of the tape.)
There's a relentless motor and superior football instincts. This young man will be a steady riser in his class, with the work habits and foundation to be an impact player at his next level. A junior in 2025, he'll continue to grow and develop, get after it in the weight room.
He crashes the line of scrimmage and gets off blocks, with the strength to push through tackles and disrupt the play. There's hunger and meanness in his game, and he rushes with his eyes up.
