If there's one team that likes to lay in the weeds and pull off insane upsets against top-10 opponents, it's Purdue. And unfortunately, Oregon football will be headed to West Lafayette to face those Boilermakers this weekend.

Over the years, the Boilermakers have earned the nickname the "Spoilermakers" because they like to pull off upsets as an unranked team against top five and top-10 teams.

In its program's history, Purdue has upset 17 top-five teams while unranked and nine other top-10 teams also as an unranked squad. That makes Saturday's showdown in West Lafayette that much more interesting.

Oregon needs to be aware of this as to not overlook this team.

Yes, Purdue is likely the worst team in the Big Ten this year along with UCLA and no, they don't match up well with Oregon in any aspect. The Boilermakers are the laughingstock of the conference right now and Ryan Walters can't seem to get it figured out. But he is coming off an emotional loss to Illinois that came down to the wire in a 50-49 overtime thriller. That's a confidence-booster.

After playing a ranked Illinois team tough on the road, the Boilermakers have nothing to lose on Saturday against No. 2 Oregon coming off an emotional win over Ohio State.

That could be a recipe for disaster.

Look at the last top-five upset win for the Boilermakers. They took down No. 5 Michigan State after the Spartans and Kenneth Walker III recorded an emotional win over rival Michigan at home. Then they went to West Lafayette and lost 40-29 to an unranked Purdue team.

Before that, Purdue beat No. 2 Iowa 24-7 on the road in 2021. And then before that, the Boilermakers beat No. 2 Ohio State at home, 49-20. Oh yeah, and they weren't ranked for any of those wins.

Sound familiar?

This game cannot be overlooked by Lanning and the Ducks. The Spoilermakers are very real and ready to attack.
