On paper, the Ducks look like one of the teams to beat in 2026 as Dan Lanning may have his best roster yet. Every analyst sees the Ducks as a team that can make a deep Playoff run, and it truly feels like a championship or bust season for the program.

Given how close the Ducks have come in recent years to making the National Championship Game, the fanbase won't be happy just to make the playoff this season. The biggest point is the way that the Ducks are following the blueprint that the last three National Championship winners followed. Indiana was notably the oldest team in college football last year, and Ohio State went all in the year prior to return veterans like Jack Sawyer and Denzel Burke back after they watched Michigan win it all the year prior.
After a College Football Playoff loss to Indiana that left a sour taste in every player's mouth, Dan Lanning and his staff were able to get a similar level of buy-in. Dante Moore, A'Mauri Washington, and Matayo Uiagalelei were all in the conversation to be 1st round picks, yet they all decided to return for one final season.
It's almost impossible to line up a roster the way that Dan Lanning and his staff have this offseason, and the Ducks simply have to cash in. While Oregon recruits at an elite level, you may never have a group as good as this defensive line unit, a quarterback like Dante Moore, or the depth and talent of this wide receiver room.
Putting National Championship or bust expectations on any season is unfair as it only sets a team up for disappointment, but this season it has to be the case. The talent and experience are there, and all that's left is for Dan Lanning to get over the final hurdle.
