The 2027 recruiting cycle has reached a point where there's not much work left for Dan Lanning and the Oregon coaching staff. The Ducks already have 24 players committed, with a few targets still nearing decisions, and for the most part, Oregon will likely just focus on keeping everyone on board. Around the Country, the focus for most coaches is quickly shifting to the 2028 recruiting class, where each program will look to start building relationships.
Thus far, Oregon hasn't landed a commitment in the 2028 cycle, but the coaching staff has certainly done its part. After hosting recruits from the 2028 class on campus this Summer, the Ducks appear to be ready to start battling for commitments in the months to come.
Elite edge rusher Darieon Prescott sets commitment date naming Oregon among finalists
After taking visits this Summer, some of the top recruits in the 2028 recruiting cycle are getting ready to start making decisions. Among the first to come off the board this Summer will be elite edge rusher Darieon Prescott, who will be committing on Monday, July 27th. When Prescott announces his decision, Oregon will be in contention as one of the three finalists alongside Notre Dame and Texas A&M.

According to Rivals' Industry Recruiting Rankings, Darieon Prescott is the 18th ranked player in the Country, the 5th ranked edge rusher in the class, and the top player out of Illinois. Given how far out this class is from signing, there will be a ton of movement in the rankings, but if Darieon Prescott remains a top 32 recruit, he'd be a 5-star recruit.
Heading into the day of Darieon Prescott's commitment, the Ducks likely won't be the team that lands the initial decision. Notre Dame appears to be the heavy favorite to the point that Rivals' Steve Wiltfong, Allen Trieu, and Mike Singer have all logged predictions favoring the Irish.
The good news for the Ducks is that even if Prescott commits to Notre Dame on Monday, this recruitment is far from over. Dan Lanning and his staff have shown countless times that they can pull off big flips, and they'll continue to recruit Prescott throughout the next year. It'll be important for the coaching staff to get Prescott out to Eugene for a visit this season, as it would certainly go a long way in changing his mind.
