On Saturday, Dan Lanning offered a sophomore quarterback on Junior Day, the son of a Washington Husky legend.

It was a big story last April when Brock Huard gave up his color analyst job with FOX Sports to become a high school football assistant coach at Valor Christian High. He wanted to be there for his son Titus, a promising 6-5 quarterback.

On the "Real Hawk Talk" podcast Brock said, “I’d like to still do (announcing) down the road, but for these years, these formative years, my son’s gonna be a sophomore. These are years I’ll never, ever, ever get back—and I’m gonna jump into it.”

As a sophomore on the varsity Titus led the Eagles to a 10-3 record, completing 69 percent of his passes for 1,946 yards and 16 touchdowns, just four interceptions. He got his first offer from Stetson College, attended camps at Washington and USC, where his uncle Luke is offensive coordinator.

At Rivals he debuted as a three-star prospect, 6-5, 205, a good athlete who plays power forward on the basketball team (six points and five rebounds a game) and a pitcher in baseball. Recruiting attention started.

There's potential there. Some notes:

Whip like arm

calm in the pocket
shakes off a tackler and finds his outlet receiver
drops it in the bucket
rail shot
zip and accuracy, presnap reads fires a goal line slant between two defenders
confidence to throw into windows
throws on the run, eyes upfield
touch throw to a back
Mobile and athletic, strong enough to shed tacklers and escape
back shoulder fade, layered throws
elite arm strength-- right hash to left sideline with authority

The son has grown up around football and understands the process. His grandpa Mike Huard put together a 26-year career as a coach, primarily at Puyallup High where his sons Damon, Brock and Luke were all State Gatorade Players of the Year. The Huards won nine South Puget Sound League championships. Damon and Brock went on to star at the University of Washington and both played several seasons in the NFL, Brock once the backup to Peyton Manning in Indianapolis.

Titus said to Brandon Huffman of 247Sports, "I know what recruiting is really like, so I'm going to definitely get out to camps and do 7v7 and just get out there and earn it,"

The story got a twist Saturday when the Highlands Ranch, Colorado three-sport star visited Oregon for a major recruiting event, earning an offer from Dan Lanning and the Ducks.

By the time they're done Oregon will offer 300 players in the 2028 class, and not all of those will be commitable. With his athletic profile, arm and size, Huard will garner close to 40 before he makes a decision.

"Washington is a dream school for sure," Huard said to Huffman. "I always grew up watching Washington. I've been able to talk with coach Fisch and my dad knows him."

His final decision is two years out, and the Ducks have Dylan Raiola for 2027 and Akili Smith Jr. after that. But wouldn't it be something if the younger Huard struck out on his own, choosing to follow Justin Herbert rather than the family tradition? He'll be an interesting story wherever he goes.
