The 2028 recruiting cycle is starting to come into focus with the college football season rapidly approaching. The Summer was all about building out the 2027 recruiting class, and now that the Ducks have seemingly put the finishing touches on that class, the coaching staff can now start building relationships in the 2028 cycle.

For the Oregon Ducks, Dan Lanning and his staff are often looking outside the state to build the class, with an addition here or there from the state. The 2027 cycle has seen the Ducks add 4 in-state recruits, which is more than we've typically seen. Recruiting the in-state talent is key in this NIL and Transfer Portal era, and it looks like Dan Lanning's staff has put an emphasis on its importance.

Oregon to host elite in-state TE Presley DeLance

When the Ducks open up their chase, for the 2027 National Championship against Boise State, the top player in the state of Oregon will be in attendance as Lake Oswego star Presley DeLance will visit Eugene.

According to Rivals' Industry Recruiting Rankings, Presley DeLance is the 237th ranked player in the Country, the 10th ranked tight end in the class, and the top player out of Oregon. 247 Sports is the highest of any recruiting service on DeLance, ranking him as the 85th ranked player in the Country and the 4th ranked tight end in the class.

The Ducks will have a chance to re-unite a pair of Lake Oswego stars as DeLance's teammate Josh Christensen is a member of the 2027 class of commits.

Dan Lanning and the coaching staff have turned Oregon into one of the best programs at developing tight ends in recent years. Terrance Ferguson went to the Los Angeles Rams in the 2nd round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and Kenyon Sadiq followed him this season by landing in the 1st round. Jamari Johnson will have a chance to continue the trend as he enters this season as a projected 1st round pick.

Oregon will have every pitch available for the recruitment of Presley DeLance which should only help the staff. Between the track record of development at the position, and the Ducks being the hometown team, DeLance will be a top recruit to watch in the 2028 cycle.
