Oregon vs Oklahoma State lightning delay: Updates, game status, and more

The 6th ranked Oregon Ducks are in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Saturday morning, looking to improve to 2-0 with a win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The atmosphere in Boone Pickens Stadium should be electric as Eric Morris makes his home debut as the Cowboys' new head coach after they opened the season on the road against Tulsa.

The Oklahoma State fans who are fired up to see their new-look roster, even with the loss, and all the Oregon fans hoping to see a stellar performance from the Ducks will have to wait a little longer than expected. The weather forecast all week showed potential storms in the area, and on Saturday Morning the forecasts are coming true.

Oregon vs Oklahoma State Lightning Delay: Updates as storms slow Week 2 clash

Leading into the game, every forecast showed that it would be a hot day in Stillwater, but that there were also potential thunderstorms throughout the afternoon. Just 80 minutes before the game was scheduled to kick off, Oregon and Oklahoma State were asked to leave the field during warmups due to thunder and lightning storms in the area.

According to the NCAA rules, the teams can't return to the field until there are 30 consecutive minutes without lightning detected within an 8-10 mile radius. Given that the game hasn't started yet, the teams are instead leaving the field during warmups, which always makes finding a potential start time harder.

According to the Oregon Football X account, the team will resume warmups at 9:15 AM PT with a targeted kickoff time of 10:15 AM PT.

After a promising update on the weather, it now looks as if the game will be delayed by an hour according to Dave Hunziker.

Per Oklahoma State radio broadcaster Dave Hunziker, Oklahoma State is hoping to kick the game off at 11:38 AM CT, but the storm is making it hard to project.

Some teams, like Clemson against LSU last weekend, ask for 90 minutes of warmups, but both teams may decide to jump right into the action after the delay if there's a potential for more storms later in the day.
