After teammates celebrated her birthday in the morning senior forward Taylor Bryan scored a pair of goals to lead the Duck women to a 4-0 victory Thursday night over Weber State in the season opener for Oregon fall sports and Duck women's soccer.

Bryan told Brett Austin Taylor of KEZI9 Sports, "It was an amazing birthday. Even before we put on our cleats they all just shared their appreciation and I appreciated them. It was a great way to start the morning off, start the day off. The vibes were high and I knew at the end of the day I just wanted to do it for them."

In just the 19th minute the 2024 transfer from Virginia Tech and Xaverian High School in Brooklyn, New York took a beautiful cross pass from Sydney Chura and headed it into the goal for a 1-0 lead. Chura is from Milford, Michigan, a senior transfer from Savannah College.

In the 30th minute freshman Miya Alamares took a deflection in the box and buried it into the back right corner for a 2-0 lead, the first goal of her college career.

The Ducks added two goals in the second half. Taylor scored with a chip shot from distance into the left corner for her second goal of the night, then at 79:05 Lauren Kenney arced one over the goalie from nearly the same spot at the top of box.

Goalies Caeley Goldstein and Gia Kiesling turned away seven shots on goal to complete the shutouf.

The Ducks were a woeful 5-11-2 last season, 1-8-2 in the Big Ten, ahead of only Indiana in the conference.

New coach Tracy Joyner said after the match, "It's really exciting. I'm looking at the future; I don't know a ton about the past. Just focus on the team now and what we're going to do moving forward, so I'm really happy for the team, happy for us and it's nice to see your hard work pay off on the field."

Next the Ducks host a Junior and Youth Club Day on Sunday before a 1 p.m. PT match with West Coast Conference power Portland at Pape Field, TV on Big Ten+. The Pilots were 9-5-6 a season ago, 10-4-3 in 2023, coached by Michelle French. They won national championships in 2002 and 2005.
