In Virginia Beach, Virginia the Oregon women won their eighth national championship of all time, showing Dan Lanning and the football Ducks how it's done.
The Ladies got a first place finish from Wilma Neilson in the mile. The Ducks took first in the distance medley relay, and sprinter Jadyn Mays racked up 16 points with second place finishes in the 60 and 200 meters. In all the Ducks tallied:
60 meters — 8 points — Jadyn Mays (2nd place)
60 hurdles — 8 points — Aaliyah McCormick (2nd place)
200 meters — 8 points — Jadyn Mays (2nd place)
Mile — 15 points — Wilma Nielsen (1st place), Silan Ayyildiz (4th place)
DMR — 8 points — Wilma Nielsen, Ella Clayton, Ella Nelson and Silan Ayyildiz (2nd place)
Shot put — 8 points — Jaida Ross (2nd place)
Track coach Jerry Schumacher said, "Top to bottom, from the administration to the staff to the athletes, I couldn't be more proud of this team. They were fantastic. To overperform the form charts at the national championships is not easy to do, and they did that in every event. It was a special day for us, for sure."
They'll get a chance to add another title at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, held June 11-14 at Hayward Field in Eugene.
