Former Oregon offensive tackle Penei Sewell is returning to the Pro Bowl after an impressive regular season for the Detroit Lions. Before the year started, Sewell became the highest-paid offensive lineman in the entire NFL with his four-year, $112-million contract.
The money clearly paid off as Sewell has done a fantastic job of protecting Detroit quarterback Jared Goff as they led the Lions to a 14-2 record and first-place finish in the NFC South.
Alongside Sewell are Goff, center Frank Ragnow, running back Jahmyr Gibbs, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, and strong safety Brian Branch.
Sewell was also named to the NFC's Pro Bowl rosters in 2023 and 2024, making the upcoming game his third appearance. In 2023, he was named to the All-Pro roster after his impressive performance in the game.
While at Oregon, Sewell was a unanimous All-American in 2019 as well as being named to the first-team All-Pac-12 lineup. The offensive lineman was awarded with the 2019 Morris Trophy which goes to the top offensive and defensive linemen in the Pac-12 conference every year. He also won the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year in 2019.
After spending two years with the Ducks, Sewell was selected seventh overall by the Lions during the 2021 NFL Draft and was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team during his first year in Detroit. So far, he has started in all 63 games he has played in for the Lions.
The Pro Bowl Games take place one week ahead of the Super Bowl. The game itself is scheduled to kick off at noon PT on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025.
