While Michigan State may have not been an opponent the Ducks intensely focused on prior to the 2024 offseason since Oregon State's former head coach Jonathan Smith took over the MSU program, Oregon almost certainly needs to defeat the Spartans.
Dan Lanning has split his record against Smith, losing to the Beavers in his first season with the Ducks but taking down Oregon State in 2023.
As Smith brings the Spartans to town, Lanning and the Ducks need to mark their territory and prove that they can defend Autzen Stadium.
