As fun as it is to have a dual sport athlete on the roster, Bryce Boettcher needs to ride the bench for at least a few games in 2024. Also on the Duck baseball roster, he is not living up to the all-star standard for both teams.

In 2023, Boettcher only had 37 total tackles for an average of 2.6 per game. He also only has 2.5 tackles for loss in his two years on the team.

One highlight for the inside linebacker is that he recovered a fumble in the Ducks’ season opener against Portland State and forced a fumble on the road against Texas Tech.

With low defensive production, it should be easy for Lanning to find Boettcher’s replacement.

Lanning signed three four-star linebackers in his 2024 class including Brayden Platt, Kamar Mothudi, and Dylan Williams. He also signed three-star linebacker Kingston Lopa.

Jeffrey Bassa, Boettcher’s teammate and fellow ILB, will be returning for his senior season and 2024. Bassa is primed and ready to step into a leadership role for the Ducks’ defense.

Jestin Jacobs is yet another solid option to fill the role of inside linebacker and for Boettcher to model his gameplay after.
