3 transfers who'll have the biggest impacts on Oregon football in 2024
According to 247Sports, Oregon football landed the No. 2 transfer portal class in the country for the 2024 season. The incoming crop of transfers figures to have a massive impact on the team during its upcoming 'national title or bust' season.
From top to bottom, the crop of incoming transfers will all contribute in some way.
Dillon Gabriel is the headliner obviously, but guys like Dante Moore, Kobe Savage, Peyton Woodyard, Jamaree Caldwell, and Kam Alexander are all flying under the radar. There isn't a single incoming transfer who couldn't be plugged into the starting lineup seamlessly.
But which transfers will have the biggest impacts in 2024? Here are my top three.
3. Evan Stewart, WR (Texas A&M)
Evan Stewart committed to Texas A&M as a five-star in the loaded 2022 class but didn't quite have the follow-up year as a sophomore that he wanted after breaking out for 649 yards and two touchdowns on 53 catches as a true freshman. He finished his A&M career with 91 receptions for 1,163 yards and six touchdowns in 18 games. And he's just scratching the surface.
With Jimbo Fisher moving on from Texas A&M, he felt like it was time for him to also find a new home and he landed with Oregon where he's going to team up with Tez Johnson to make up one of the best 1-2 punches at receiver in the nation.
Hopes should be high for this former five-star as he could be a 1,000-yard candidate in 2024.
2. Jabbar Muhammad, CB (Washington)
Transferring from Washington to Oregon feels like a no-no in this rivalry (and vice versa), but the Ducks were never going to turn down the opportunity to land a guy like Jabbar Muhammad. Plus, stealing one of the best players from your rival is just the cherry on top of the transfer portal haul for Dan Lanning.
Muhammad was one of the best cornerbacks in the country last year, totaling 46 tackles and five tackles for loss along with two sacks, three interceptions and 16 pass breakups.
If there's one newcomer on the defensive side of the ball who I'm most confident will be a star for the Ducks, it's Muhammad. He already has plenty of Power Five (now Power Four) experience as a starter with Washington and Oklahoma State and he excelled with both programs.
1. Dillon Gabriel, QB (Oklahoma)
Another veteran newcomer, Dillon Gabriel is entering his sixth college football season with his third program. He started at UCF in 2019 and transferred to Oklahoma in 2022 where he played for two seasons and had over 6,800 yards with 55 touchdowns and only 12 picks.
Now he's at Oregon where he's replacing Bo Nix and he might be the best possible quarterback transfer to fill that role. While the Ducks also landed former five-star Dante Moore, he's going to play the role of understudy while Gabriel completes his final collegiate season.
It's hard to say any other transfer will have a bigger impact than a quarterback who has over 14,000 career yards and 125 touchdowns. Gabriel is going to be a superstar in Eugene.
