For the first time since 1983, the Denver Broncos will be starting a rookie quarterback in Week 1. That's right, Bo Nix has officially won the starting quarterback job with the Broncos after two sparkling preseason games.

The news doesn't come as much of a shock, but being in the same breath as John Elway is certainly cause for excitement in Denver.

For the first time since Elway was a rookie in 1983, the Broncos are starting a rookie quarterback to begin the season. If this doesn't get you excited as either an Oregon or Denver fan, I don't know what will. Nix is going to have a chance to lead the Broncos out of the cellar in the AFC West in year one.

While the Broncos likely won't win the division because they happen to share the West with the Kansas City Chiefs, they'll be able to push for second place and potentially a playoff spot.

This team is in good hands with Nix leading the way.

Oregon fans have a deep love for Nix who came over from Auburn ahead of the 2022 season and excelled immediately. Kenny Dillingham and the offense were electric and Nix had the best season of his career, passing for over 3,500 yards and 29 touchdowns with a career-best 72 percent completion rate. He actually improved on those numbers in 2023 with 4,508 yards and 45 touchdowns with only three picks and a 77 percent completion rate.

In two years, he became an Oregon legend. He was just a win over Washington away from being untouchable in Eugene.

Now he'll be leading Denver as a rookie starter in 2024, beating out Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson. Who would have thought this after his "disappointing" Auburn years?

What a career turnaround for Nix.
