Bucky Irving is the NFL's top rookie running back through 3 weeks
One of the top running backs in college football from 2023 happens to be leading all NFL rookies in rushing through three weeks. Oh, and that running back happens to be Oregon Duck, Bucky Irving.
The former Oregon star has really burst onto the scene in the NFL through three weeks, helping lead Tampa Bay to a 2-1 record and he just had had his first breakout game with the Buccaneers.
Through three NFL games, he leads all rookies with 154 rushing yards on 25 carries which is good for an impressive 6.2 per touch. He also has five catches for 28 yards. He has yet to score a touchdown in the NFL, but it feels like that's going to happen any moment now because he's making the most of his carries and his coach is even taking notice.
In fact, Todd Bowles told the media on Monday afternoon that Irving has earned himself more carries moving forward which is great news for him and bad news for the usual starter, Rachaad White.
Oregon fans have to be thrilled to see yet another recent alum excel in the NFL much like Bo Nix is doing with Denver. He had a slow start to his QB1 career with the Broncos, but he picked up his first career win on Sunday against Irving's Buccaneers.
Jonathan Brooks (Texas -> Carolina Panthers) and Trey Benson (Florida State -> Arizona Cardinals) were both expected to be the league's top rookie rushers, but the former hasn't played a snap yet due to injury and Benson is playing minimally behind James Conner in Arizona.
