As the Oregon Ducks football program continues to gear up for its first year of playing in the Big Ten, it sounds like Oregon football head coach Dan Lanning is leaving no stone unturned in his preparation. At the 2024 Big Ten Media Days, Lanning revealed that the Oregon football coaching staff just completed a coaching retreat that emphasized connection within the staff.

Lanning shared that the Ducks coaches took off for a three-day retreat in Central Oregon and used the time to prepare for their upcoming games against Big Ten opponents while also focusing on continuing to build the program’s culture.

"We spent some time going over future opponents, summer scouting, and really leaning in on one of the most important traits in our program, which is connection," Lanning explained.

From the outside looking in, it really seems like the Oregon Ducks football program has a strong commitment to building a cohesive unit. That should certainly help the Ducks as they strive to compete at a high level in the Big Ten this season.

As Lanning notes, this sort of emphasis on a strong connection should help the Ducks as they move forward.

“Focusing in on the roots of our program, what makes us an elite coaching staff, how we can build our roster, what things around going to be in front of us and our future,” Lanning stated when discussing how the Ducks were moving forward.

The head coach of the Ducks also said that he was excited some of the newer members of the 2024 Oregon football coaching staff got the chance to see some of what makes Oregon such a beautiful state. Which, if you’re going to make your home in the Pacific Northwest, you absolutely have to go see some of the sights available to you.

Oregon football fans should be excited to see that Lanning has a clear vision for keeping a united coaching staff that is capable of elevating the Oregon Ducks football program.

The Ducks are positioned well to have success now, but if Lanning can continue to establish a healthy culture, this team could be great for years to come. Given that he’s coached with both Nick Saban and Kirby Smart, it makes plenty of sense that Lanning would put a focus on this aspect of building a football program.
