The first game of the Dillon Gabriel era with Oregon football is just a few days away and the newcomer had a chance to speak to the media on Tuesday after practice.
Gabriel was asked a number of different questions about the expectations for the upcoming season, his team chemistry, and his thoughts on all the Heisman hype he's been receiving. And his answers to everything showed just how prepared he is for a highly-anticipated 2024 season.
One quote that really stood out to me other than the fact that he said that he only cares about winning and putting one more point on the board each game than the opponent was his response to the Heisman talk.
Gabriel basically downplayed the elevated levels of hype he's been getting, per a transcript from Erik Skopil from 247Sports.
"I just realize none of it matters. I think just like people 'What have you done for me lately? What kind of person have you been to me lately?' That's kind of I pride myself on. You're only as good as your last game or practice or performance. So, that's what I'm focused on. The rest will take care of itself. I'm so obsessed with just winning. That's the main focus and goal, and the rest will take care of itself. "Dillon Gabriel
That quote just shows how much of a winner Gabriel is. He doesn't care about the personal accolades as long as his team keeps winning. He is "obsessed" with winning which is one of my favorite quotes ever. And the fact that he says the rest will take care of itself is mature of him.
There's a reason everyone is excited for the 2024 Ducks because, well, there's an elite quarterback running the show (again) and he has weapons galore.
Oregon will have one of the best quarterbacks in the country with the perfect mindset of "team-first" heading into the season.
