Dillon Gabriel is on pace to break a single-season college football record
Three weeks into the 2024 season, Dillon Gabriel is making himself known as an elite passer -- as if he wasn't already. He was expected to be one of the best transfers in the nation this year and he's more than lived up to that through the first three weeks even though Oregon has been shaky overall.
Oregon barely snuck by Idaho and Boise State at home before putting a beatdown on Oregon State in Corvallis to make a statement and move to 3-0 on the year.
While the Ducks have dropped from No. 3 in the preseason AP Top 25 to No. 9 as of Week 3, there's a lot to be excited about after a demolition of the rival Beavers.
And even with the rankings drop and shaky play in the first two weeks of the season, Gabriel has been as consistent as any quarterback in the nation and he's actually on pace to break the college football record for completion percentage in a single season which was set by his predecessor, Bo Nix.
Nix is actually tied for the college football single-season completion percentage record with Mac Jones who hit 77.4% -- Jones hit that number in 2020 and Nix in 2023.
Well, Gabriel is currently on track to smash that record that has been held for just a year by a former Oregon quarterback as he's completing 84 percent of his passes through three games. That's just an insane number.
Gabriel is 79-for-94 passing on the year with six touchdowns and no interceptions to go along with 914 yards. He's averaging over 300 yards per game and he's completing an incredible percentage of passes on 94 attempts. His previous career-high completion rate was 69 percent which he hit last season with Oklahoma.
If Gabriel keeps up this incredible pace, he will smash Nix's record set last year.
